Pre-Christmas feast

My dad turned 50 this month. Once we were all home for Christmas he decided to have a little celebration. Charlie and I cooked all day,

Then when evening came we all had a little trouble with Bahaa's bow tie.

My fault for not buying a clip-on.
But with some last minute prep...

Starter was finally on the table!

I made smoked mackerel pate to start and boeuf bourguignon for the main course. I'm afraid that at this point I was so busy serving up (/drinking wine) that I forgot to remind Greg to take any photos of this course... his offering:

"So good all the plates were clean!"

So you will just have to take my word for it, it looked and tasted sublime! Charlie was self-appointed dessert queen and made not only a velvet chocolate torte covered in birthday candles, but a bake well tart at Dad's request.

The evening spiralled rather rapidly into what might be called in other contexts "a huge lash". Before we knew it there were christmas sing-a-longs, family rounds of Jager shots and emotional declarations of love (mostly from Charlie). Needless to say there is more than one hangover occurring in this house today, but you're only 50 once, right?
